  • Ubuntu Themes: 15 Awesome Themes for Linux [Download]
got pissed at XP Pro on my media/server PC so I added Ubuntu. I love GRUB, fixes all my problems with booting OSX, WIN7, XP, and Ubuntu. A great many of my frustrations are fixed with Ubuntu, but others are not. I'm used to audio and video in windows, for one. Theme support is much cooler than in windows - so here's some themes. Just need to figure out another "big" aspect of Linux/UNIX/Ubuntu. Engines...

My OS X install has graphics issues. I need to fix it before I can really do anything. But when I do... Ableton, and Quartz composer and (some others), here I come.
  • BBC - My Web My Way - Linux - On-screen keyboards
Linux is hard as hell without a keyboard. This post talks about adding on-screen keyboard support to login/lock screens. I need this in order to operate my media/server PC in a more efficient manner. Most of the server uses can be handled with remote terminal from my laptop. I really enjoy launching apps from Putty on my laptop - much better than cygstart with Cygwin+Windows.
  • TC1100 - LQWiki
more precise info about on-screen keyboards - this is the page that talks more about embedding an OSK in lock screen dialogs.
  • ubuntu samba force master - Google Search
I'd love for Ubuntu to handle all the samba stuff cause it seems to do a zippy job at what it does as a workgroup member. I just get sick of the local network not coming up or PC's missing. I hope UNIX would do a better job at keeping track.

a great tip by Eric (in comments) led me to write my own script. I use nslookup and ifconfig to compare DNS versus external IP's and if different update. Also, my script pings google and if no reply reconnects. Not sure I did the reconnect right - I just did ifconfig ppp0 down. It comes back up and things are well, I suppose. Some frustration with shell scripting since I'm used to bash, but all worked out well for now.

  • postscript tutorial - Google Search
until I found a book about making technical drawings with postscript, I did not grasp what was going on with PS files. Now I am curious to do some experimenting.
  • An Introduction to Cairo with Python
another interest I have relating to Python. I have messed with cairo once with autohotkey, I think. Pretty cool since I have heard firefox 3 uses Cairo.
